Founded in 1964 by Port Authority of NY/NJ employees, XCEL Federal Credit Union serves individuals, families and businesses in New York, New Jersey and around the country. We have always operated on the simple premise that everything we do should be in the best interests of our members.
1960s

1964

First chartered and opened our first office at 325 Spring Street, NYC as the Port Authority Employees Association Federal Credit Union.
1970s
Went through three name changes during this time before finally becoming the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Federal Credit Union.

1975

Moved its offices to the World Trade Center where it remained until September 11, 2001.
1980s

1988

Opened the Kennedy Blvd Branch and Data Center in Jersey City, NJ.
1990s

December 1990

Merged with HEW Region II Federal Credit Union which allowed two more branches to be opened at 26 Federal Plaza, NYC and in the SSA building at 1 Jamaica Plaza, Jamaica, NY.

March 1996

Changed our name to XCEL Federal Credit Union.
2000s

2004

Changed our tagline to “Uniting Service and Technology” and our logo which is a torch to represent “The Light to Financial Freedom” for our members.
 

2006

Opened the Journal Square Branch at 30 Path Plaza in Jersey City.


2009

Operations Center was moved to 1460 Broad Street, Bloomfield, NJ as our main headquarters.
2010s

2011-2014

Voted by NJBIZ as One of the Best Places to work in New Jersey.
 

2011

Voted by NJCUL as Credit Union of the Year for New Jersey.
 

2014

Voted by National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) as Credit Union of the Year.
 

April 2019

Merged with NBC(NY) Employees Federal Credit Union.
2020s -Present

2024

Bloomfield Branch was built & completed.
